If Abstractors and Examiners can remain at their desk and navigate the plant from their computers this will be a huge time saver. If researchers have to "touch" the paper, they can print a hard copies of the pages they need. Time is money and increased productivity among the title stafff can not be underestimated.
Profits - many Agents with paper plants are unwilling to allow Landmen or Right of Way Agents into their facilities because they are legitimately concerned about the care (or lack of care) with which some of these individuals handle their records. By scanning indexes and images and making them available via a computer "kiosk", with no connection to the Internet and without the ability to print, then depending upon the oil & gas or other real estate activity in your area you may be able to take advantage of another revenue stream.
When oil is selling at $75 per barrel, most landmen are less concerned about the cost for title plant access as they are about buying leases. So, if you can generate more money without risk of loss or damage to your title plant then allowing access to landmen makes sense. Besides it helps pay the rent.
